Slice of Life: A Walk Down Memory Lane… #SOL17

We (and by we, I mean Tammy) joined #NCTEchat on Sunday night.  As I read through the feed the next day there was one question that struck me.  My answer was immediate.  Here’s the question:

Here is the tweet I would have sent:

A1:  Not a convention, but a #NCTEchat on October 20 2013 – why you write?  It was during this twitter chat that I first learned about Slice of Life. That year at the convention I met with the Slice community for the first time.  That was a favorite moment.

One week later I joined #SOL for the first time and this community continues to be one of the main reasons I write.  I went back to find that first slice from four years ago.

I did not know then that writing would become a weekly ritual or that Slice of Life would become a community I depend upon.  Thank you #NCTEchat, #SOL and #TWTBlog  —  you are #whyIwrite.

Hi Clare–I opened your post ready to have my thinking nudged, challenged, and somewhat transformed since that’s what happens every Tuesday when I read your post, and instead I’m a little teary. It really is a powerful community in ways that are hard to explain until you join and make writing a ritual.

I will miss NCTE this year, and I have to admit, I am regretting my decision to save that money this year, as I feel the excitement grow. Have a wonderful time, and I hope to see you soon closer to home.

No more NCTE’s for me…but the SOL ritual is something that I will always treasure as a way to keep my writing life going.
